Tryouts and Coaching Announcement

Dear Bulls Families,

We are extremely excited about the upcoming 2021-2022 hockey season. To register for tryouts click here. (Contact Karen@birminghambullshockey.com should you have any problems with the form.)

Please be aware, the cost of registration will increase to $75 beginning June 7th so get your child registered as soon as possible. All registrations and payments must be submitted online at www.birminghambullshockey.com .

 

 

And now... the Birmingham Bulls are pleased to announce the following coaches:

Josh Harris 10U
Josh was born and raised in Torrance, California. From there, he went on to have a decorated 4 year career at Castleton University, graduating with a bachelors in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing.

Josh is joining the Bulls Youth Program after playing 8 years professionally. Most recently, he has played 3 seasons with the Birmingham Bulls in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Aside from playing, he spent his free time sharing his knowledge of the game with our in-house teams and Learn-To-Play programs. This year Josh plans to develop a talented young group of athletes in a quest for the cup.
 
Brian Clark 12U

Brian Clark grew up playing youth and high school hockey in Peoria, IL then Juniors in Springfield, IL.

Brian Clark has been involved in hockey in Birmingham since 1991, founding a fledging youth program along with two others, and has served in nearly every capacity imaginable in our loccal hockey community.

Brian has served on the ice as an official for over 30 years, officiating all levels here in Birmingham from mites to the college club level to the minor league level and at various stops in Washington, DC and the Midwest. Brian was the SYTHL Referee-In-Chief for several years in the late 1990s.

He served the BYHL in an administrative capacity at various times as a Vice-President , Coach in Chief and local Referree in Chief / Scheduler. Also as a coach at many levels, including the Bantam and Midget travel teams from 1995 through 2000 and at lower levels from 2003 through 2007. Brian's Midget team won an SYTHL Champtionship when all teams played in one division, advancing to the USA Hockey District Tournament.
Alexander Taulien 14U

Alexander Taulien grew up in Crystal Lake, Illinois playing hockey, baseball, football, basketball and lacrosse.

He played 3 years of high school hockey and left his senior year to play in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in Traverse City, MI. He then played one more year of Juniors wiht the Soo Eagles in the NAHL.

From there he received an academic scholarship to play Division III hockey in Elmire, NY where he graduated with a double major in Finance and Business Education.

After his junior year he received an opportunity to play professionally in Kansas City, MO with the Missouri Mavericks of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) (New York Islanders Affilliate).

The following year he received an invite to training camp with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) (St Louis Blues Affiliate). After playing in 1 exhibition game, his journey would take him down south where he finished the season with the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

The next professional season he joined the Birmingham Bulls of the SPHL where he spent the beginning and end of the season. Around Christmas he was called up to Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL where he spent about 3 months in the middle of the season.

During his final professional season he spent the year in Macon, GA where he played for the Macon Mayhem of the SPHL.

During his time in Birmingham he created a charity called "Standing Tauls Against Cancer" which benefits children with cancer and is run through the Children's Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham.

He recently moved back to Birmingham permanently in January of 2020 and is looking forward to working with and shaping the minds of the ever growing hockey community in Birmingham.

Rick Bennett 16U

Rick grew up in Richmond Hill Ontario, north of Toronto. He graduated from college in 1981, moved between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario a few times before being transferred to Birmingham, Alabama in 2013.

Rick played minor hockey since age 4 including 2 years in college and has since racked up 18 years of coaching experience from house to Midget AAA in Nova Scotia. His coaching resume includes 2005/06 Intermediate Girls in Ontario as well as taking the 2014/15 Alabama Frozen Tide PeeWee travel team to Halifax NS is spring of 2015.


While there is only one team per level represented with coaching selections, if there is a sufficient number of competitive players at any level, we will identify a qualified coach and field a second team as done in prior years.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the rink very soon.
